Before you finalise your kitchen renovation plans, there is one useful move worth making: visit several kitchen showrooms.
Showrooms let you experience layouts, cabinetry, benchtops, hardware and appliances in real life. They help you understand what you like, what feels practical and which details may be worth paying for.
But there is an important distinction:
A showroom helps you choose products. It does not always account for the complete renovation required to make those products work inside your home.
Before You Compare Showroom Prices
A showroom quote and a complete kitchen renovation budget are not necessarily the same thing.
Some advertised prices cover cabinetry only. Others may include doors, handles, laminate benchtops, delivery or cabinetry installation. Stone, appliances, demolition, plumbing, electrical work, gas, ventilation, splashbacks, flooring, plastering, painting and structural changes may sit outside the quoted figure.
Bluestone recently reviewed a Melbourne Bunnings kitchen estimate totalling approximately $16,900. It included Kaboodle cabinetry, laminate benchtops, limited sinkware and delivery.
It excluded installation, demolition, appliances, every licensed trade, splashback, flooring repairs, bulkheads and proposed wall changes.
The $16,900 figure was the starting point, not the completed renovation price.

Budget-Friendly and Flat-Pack Kitchen Showrooms
These showrooms are useful for affordable cabinetry, modular layouts and early inspiration. Their product prices can be attractive, but installation and the surrounding renovation work must still be allowed for.
1. IKEA Richmond
IKEA is a useful first stop for exploring modular layouts, internal storage and compact kitchen ideas. Its displays make it easy to open drawers, inspect organisers and compare different ways of using limited space.
What it offers: Cabinets, doors, drawers, hardware, worktops, sinks, taps and appliances.
Price reality: Some basic kitchen systems combine cabinets, doors and worktops. With the more flexible METOD system, the final price depends on the selected fronts, internal fittings, benchtop and appliances.
IKEA refers customers seeking installation to independent trades through hipages. IKEA does not provide that installation itself, and the homeowner must still arrange room preparation and licensed electrical, plumbing and gas work.
Best for: Layout inspiration, compact kitchens, storage systems and modular cabinetry.

2. Bunnings Kitchen Design and Kaboodle
Selected Bunnings stores offer kitchen displays and design consultations using Kaboodle cabinetry. This is useful for comparing cabinet configurations, door finishes, handles and benchtop options.
What it offers: Flat-pack cabinetry, doors, panels, hardware, benchtops, storage accessories, sinks, taps and appliances when specifically selected.
Price reality: A Bunnings estimate may include cabinetry and benchtops, but every inclusion must be checked line by line.
Installation, demolition, electrical work, plumbing, gas, splashbacks, appliance connections and rectification work are generally separate unless expressly included.
Best for: Cost-conscious cabinetry, practical finishes and comparing an itemised product package.

3. Kaboodle Kitchens
Kaboodle is the kitchen system supplied through Bunnings. Its range now extends well beyond basic white flat-pack cabinets, with matte finishes, timber-look doors, made-to-order options and a broad selection of benchtops and storage accessories.
Kaboodle says a basic straight-line kitchen can begin from approximately $2,000, but that is before appliances, splashback, trades and the wider renovation.
A larger real-world package can exceed $15,000 before anyone has assembled or installed it.
Best for: DIY-friendly cabinetry, flexible product selection and affordable designer-look finishes.
Location: Available through Bunnings stores and online.
Mid-Range Cabinetry and Kitchen Showrooms
These businesses generally offer more design assistance, broader finish selections and assembled or custom-made cabinetry options.
Their quotes may include more than a flat-pack order, but stone, installation, demolition and licensed trade work can still be separate.
1. Kinsman Kitchens — Essendon
Kinsman offers flat-pack, value and designer cabinetry ranges. Its Essendon display includes kitchens, laundries and wardrobes, making it useful for homeowners considering connected rooms.
What it offers: Kitchen design, cabinetry, doors, handles, laminate and stone benchtop options, accessories and appliance selection through The Good Guys.
Price reality: Kinsman describes itself as a design-and-supply business. Installation is completed by separately engaged tradespeople.
Current cabinetry promotions exclude stone benchtops, glass splashbacks, delivery and trade work. Existing kitchen removal may be arranged for an additional fee.
Best for: Comparing cabinetry ranges, coordinated kitchen and laundry finishes and appliance integration.

2. Freedom Kitchens

Price reality: Freedom’s current offers are based on cabinetry values. Stone benchtops, glass splashbacks, delivery and trade work are specifically excluded from the advertised cabinetry pricing.
Confirm whether cabinetry installation, benchtop installation and demolition are included or separately contracted before accepting a proposal.
Best for: Contemporary styling, finish combinations and comparing complete-looking display kitchens.

3. Kitchens U Build — Bayswater
The Bayswater showroom contains dozens of full-size kitchen displays, with cabinetry, hardware, benchtops and finishes available to compare side by side.
What it offers: Australian-made cabinetry, benchtops, handles, accessories, sinks, taps, appliances and installed or owner-managed options.
Price reality: Kitchens U Build offers cabinetry installation separately, with its published guidance suggesting approximately $2,000–$5,000 depending on the project.
Electrical work, plumbing and demolition are not automatically included in an installation price. They must be separately quoted or specifically added to the managed scope.
Best for: Comparing Australian-made cabinetry, benchtop materials and different levels of installation support.

Premium Kitchen and Appliance Showrooms
Premium showrooms are less useful for finding a simple package price. They are valuable for studying custom joinery, material combinations, integrated appliances, architectural detailing and the relationship between the kitchen and the surrounding home.
1. Cantilever Interiors
Cantilever creates architectural kitchen and whole-home joinery systems designed and manufactured in Melbourne.
Its kitchens feel more like resolved furniture systems than standard cabinet packages, with strong attention to material, proportion and how the room relates to the home.
Price reality: Cantilever does not publish a standard kitchen package price. Design, joinery, surfaces, installation and any surrounding building work need to be clarified as part of a project-specific proposal.
Best for: Architectural kitchens, premium joinery and refined material combinations.

2. Fisher & Paykel Melbourne Experience Centre
The Fisher & Paykel Experience Centre presents premium appliances inside fully resolved kitchen environments.

Price reality: This is an inspiration and appliance experience centre, not a cabinetry supplier or complete renovation provider. Appliances are purchased through retailers.

3. Miele Experience Centre — South Melbourne

Where power points and lighting have been placed
How the rangehood is concealed and ducted
How cabinetry meets walls, ceilings and flooring

Take wide photographs, close-ups and measurements where permitted. Record exactly what you liked rather than relying on memory later.
